The Result of the Anti-Corruption Summit

As is known to all, the corruption issue has become the international topic in recent years. Every country all over the world pays attention to the corruption because it is not only the unhealthy social currents in the people’s life but also the bad influence on the national politics. In other words, the corruption hinders the development of the society.

Therefore, the international society has paid close attention to the problems. The British government at Lancaster House in London held the first international anti-corruption summit on 12 May 2016, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in combating corruption, enhance the international corruption exposure, punishing and prevention efforts in the international society.

The result of the anti-corruption summit is inspiring and encourages all the countries to fight against the corruption phenomenon. In the summit, the British government announced a series of measures to strengthen anti-corruption and anti-money laundering. Among the themes, fighting against the criminal activities of money laundering on using real estate becomes the focus. At present, foreign enterprises in England and Welsh area have more than 100 thousand house properties; 44 thousand of them are located in London. In the summit, the British government said it would build the world's first public registration system of enterprises’ real ownership. The British government announced that it would enforce to disclose the property information of foreign enterprises’ actual ownership in the UK. The British government will also be forced to disclose the company's actual ownership information which seeks to buy real estate in the UK in the future. Prime Minister Cameron said corruption is a serious challenge for the international community, and this global problem requires to be solved with the coordination of the international community. In this summit, France, Netherlands, Nigeria, Afghanistan and other countries also promised to establish a similar system of registration like Britain; Australia, New Zealand, Jordan, Indonesia, Ireland and Georgia agreed to start a similar arrangement. Also, Britain announced that they would establish the first international anti-corruption coordination center and begin the cooperation with United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and the international criminal police organization to provide coordination and support for the national law enforcement agencies to carry out cross-border combat corruption activities.

In short, this summit supplies the guidance and support for international anti-corruption activities and improves the awareness of anti-corruption in the international society. What’s more, it is good for the development of the whole international society.
