New Search Algorithm of Google----Mobilegeddon
New Search Algorithm of Google----Mobilegeddon
Part 1: Pre-reading
1 For me, Sogou is the search engine which I use most on Internet in the daily life because of its fast speed, user-friendly, and variety forms. Little by little, I am in the habit of using it since it comes out.
2 The search engine Google has created a new search algorithm called “Mobilegeddon” which causes a wave of panic today. Some people will for it and others against it according to this new information. Judging from the article name and normal thoughts in expository text, I imagine the article mainly talks about the creation process of Mobilegeddon ,its benefit towards people and significant impact on people life both at present and in the future.
3 Algorithm is a process that can obtain a result simply and rapidly by using systemic procedure such as addition, subtraction, function and calculus, which would be handled by computer
Part 2 : Comprehension
1 My opinion is that the intended audience are people who get used to searching information by means of Google search engine in smart phones, because only related people will care about such kind of giant change. If this new change can score great achievements, the related people will be able to benefit a lot from this.
2 The author aims at warning people to prepare for the upcoming new search algorithm and talking about the current situation of website. And this statement has been issued in the first paragraph. The rest content of this article will be spread on the basis of the first paragraph.
3 The main claim is that Google will launch a new function, which enable users to know whether the website has “mobile friendly” in the process of searching. From my perspective, I don’t think it is clearly stated because I can’t find out the evidence in the passage to prove the differences between new search algorithm and old ones. Fresh things doesn’t always bring benefit.
4 The first reason is that most of the web’s top sites are not mobile friendly. Second one is 10,000 of 25,000 web pages has failed Google’s mobile-readiness test. Referring to something I want to know more, the reason why Google needs a new search algorithm and big differences between Mobilegeddon and old search algorithm are two of the first to come to mind. It is of vital necessary to illustrate from these two aspects.
5 Because this new search algorithm would be cost a lot and other factors will be taken into consideration such as influential, practicability and acceptance. What’s more, there may be exist unknown peril in this new procedure. Actually it is reasonable that so many tech writers against this new update because it’s pretty hard for people to accept new strange things. No one could shoulder the responsibility if it displays bad influence.More tests would be needed. Of course, it would be convinced if Google offers proofs to justify the new function’s merit.
6 Roll out : show or display
Heavy hitter : a man who has a big influence.
Antitrust :it’s about law and rule, protect people from persecution.
Inertia : get accustomed of doing something.
Optimize : make it better and more perfect.
Part 3 : Summarize and Respond
In recent decades, it is a well-accepted fact that mobile is an important source of pleasure and convenient life for many people. So using mobile has become prevalent in mainstream society. It’s also uncommon to find that Google becomes one of the most popular search engines in the world.Lately, one article named “Google’s New Search Algorithm Strokes Fear of “Mobilegeddon”” has caused widespread concern. The main topic of this article is that Google will implement a new search algorithm “Mobilegeddon” which enables users to understand if the website they are using have mobile friendly. And it will provide a faster, smoother experience for mobile searchers. Considering Google’s search algorithm, it is familiar for all of us. Like former algorithm Page Rank,“The Page Rank algorithm , used in the Google search engine, greatly improves the results of Web search by taking into account the link structure of the Web”(Richardson 1). “Query and user sensitive extensions of Page Rank. . . personalize the ranking function in a tractable way”(Haveliwala 1). “It is easy to see that Page Rank is vulnerable to Sybil attacks. . .almost all practical reputation systems are vulnerable to Sybil attacks”(Cheng 7).Concerning the new search algorithm, it also attracts attention of plenty of people. From the article, we can be seen that Google has confident in taking this transformation into effect at the best of its ability.
All in all, I’m not in favor of the opinions raised by the author. It is a fact that most of top websites are not mobile friendly. But creating a new search algorithm couldn’t be the direct reason to change this situation. In my point of view, one major downside of this new research algorithm is that there is no guarantee of the results. Just Like “The stock market has a risk , investment wants discretion”.Nobody would make sure the advantage of this new function is above and beyond its disadvantage. Besides, as I told before, former algorithm Page Rank makes a significant contribution to people’s daily life. Should it be a direct and strong connection between mobile friendly and Mobilegeddon? Yes and no.If done recklessly and unverified, could prove to be a double-edged sword. In this respect, Google could lost his reputation as a result of taking the wrong step. In the long run, it is notable to have such a creative and bold thinking. Moreover the revolution period for technology has approached. If given precedence to the convenience, safety and price for the sake of majority of people, then plus enough evidence especially in tests, this idea would be embrace a brilliant future ultimately.
