The story happens in the future of 2000. At that time, human beings are divided into two opposite classes, and they live in the totally two different worlds. Upper class and nobility both live in the gorgeous mansion and every day they live in an ease life. Poor wage-earning class lives in the cold and dark underground cities. Every day they are very busy and what accompanied them is cold machines and heavy work. In the underground factory, workers spare no efforts to do their work. The aim of them is to provide enough energy to the mansion of their mill-owners Jones and his son Fred. A young girl Marine lives in the underground city, and this girl witnesses workers’ heavy work. This girl is not satisfied with what she saw, and she preaches to those people. She encourages workers to look forward to the future. Meanwhile, her behavior arouses the dissatisfaction of mill owners. The mill owners demand scientists to make a robot machine called Marine to destroy the image of this girl. However, this action does not damage the image of this girl. On the contrary, it enhances the enthusiasm of the workers’ resistance. They destroy the main machine, and this causes flood which affects people’s daily life. At this critical time, the real Marine appears immediately, and she would like to prevent this from happening. However, the son of the mill owns Fred also falls in love with this kind and brave girl.
This movie is the
classical piece of “silent” film. It has a high art value, and it is still popular among people. The sharp thought, layout, and special effects all make it become a masterpiece.
