Gentrification Comes to Cuba
Gentrification Comes to Cuba
As we all known, with the change of living environment, the living standard and living situation will also change accordingly. Gentrification, to some extent, affects the people of Cuba and the local economy.
First of all, gentrification provides the local people of Cuba a better living standard. In the past, the living condition is low. People’s daily needs are difficult to realize. People living in the relatively rich area can receive a much better chance to accept good service and living condition while those living in the poor area have little opportunity to access to a better living standard. But with the gentrification comes to Cuba, more and more poor people receive the same chance as the people of the rich area. It brings the equal chance to the whole people of Cuba.
Besides, gentrification also booms the local economy. More and more local rich people and foreign people would like to restore the old buildings of Cuba or purchase the old buildings from local people. Purchasing or restoring the old buildings from the local people can propel the development of the local economy. The restoration of the new buildings would become the tourist attractions to attract more people to come to this area. This can also boost the development of the local economy.
Last but not least, although gentrification can provide a better living standard to the local people and boost the development of local economy, it can to some extent destroy the traditional culture of that area. The buildings of that area have a long tradition, and the restore of them can certainly have a negative effect on the traditional culture of that area.
In brief, I would like to say that the restoration of those buildings is either beneficial to the local economy or local people, but at the same time, it can also lead to the deficiency of the local traditional culture.
