The Racial Discrimination Still Exists
The Racial Discrimination Still Exists
The problem of racial discrimination is a heated topic for people to discuss for a long time. And many authors also published some works to show their opinions on this topic. By reading the last chapter of Patterson's Children of Sisyphus, we can know that black people really suffer unequal treatment.
The last Chapter, Chapter 23 is the ending part of the whole novel. It describes a Jamaica man saw a Jamaica woman who is going to die by the propagation of the people in Babylon. In the text, the author uses different kinds of adjective words to describe the laugh of the black man, such as wild and soul-consuming. These descriptive laughter words show the inner mind of this black man. How sad, depressed and helpless of this man is. In this text, the author also pays attention to the description of the running of the black woman. The woman keeps running and running towards that black man. And when she is running, the blood is spilling all over. She tries her last resort to run for the man. She is so tired, and she wants to seek the protection by a person. When the woman finally comes closer to the man, she falls down and dies. The man gives this woman a goodbye kiss and tells that let us meet in the paradise.
The theme of this passage is racial discrimination. By describing a hurt black woman, it arouses a series of a social problem in terms of social discrimination. The unequal treatment the Black people encountered embody the existence of racial discrimination.
As I said before, this passage describes a black woman who is hurt by local people. This can arouse our attention to the problem of racial discrimination. The key point of this passage is to describe a situation of racial discrimination. Through the description of the situation, we can clearly know how sympathetic the black people are. The author shows a sympathetic attitude to the black people. He gives the poor black people enough dignity and respect. The implication of this passage is to arouse our attention to the discrimination problem. As we all know, in the United States, black people are subject to different levels of discrimination in political, economic and educational aspect. Although this kind of discrimination plays less and less impact on human being’s daily life, it is still worth paying attention onto. Because it still exists.
The final part of this novel plays the role of concluding the whole novel. It shows the ending of a novel. And it is also can be seen as a small climax for the whole novel. The meaning of the last part is also the meaning of the whole novel. That is the problem of racial discrimination. By describing the death of the black woman, readers can get enough information towards this policy bring the disaster to the black people.
The author adopts the narration writing style. By describing the running of the black woman and the behavior of the black man shows to us, we can better know how the sad these two people are and what kinds of bitter they have encountered. The character of this text is the black woman and man. When the author describes the laugh of the man, he adopts the rhetorical method of metaphors.
In terms of the aesthetics the text uses, it is clear to see that the author pays a lot of attention on the description of the two black people. From their actions to their expressions, the author gives the readers a detailed analysis. At the same time, the author utilizes the method of an exaggeration to make the remarkable contrast between the two people and the local people. This kind of utilization makes the whole passage more vivid and more shocking to the readers.
My thesis will be the analysis of the racial discrimination. By utilizing a lot of description, the readers can better know that the racial discrimination really brings a great amount of disaster to the black people. Here I would like to emphasize the importance of abolishing the racial discrimination policy. To solve the problem of racial discrimination, the United States Government issues a lot of regulation and legislation. “In 1963, Martin Luther King made a speech to encourage the whole world to work together to fight for the social discrimination. He hoped that black people should get the equal chance as the other races” (McConahay 20). We cannot deny that black people really to some extent negatively affect the whole living standard of our society. If we would like to live better, it is necessary to solve the problem of racial discrimination. Black people should also attain the same opportunity to accept education, vote for the selection and also go to the restaurant. And the selection of the Obama to be the president of United States is the success of the anti-discrimination to the black people. Although nowadays there still exists personal racial discrimination phenomenon in the United States, in general, the entire community forms a relatively equal culture towards the racial discrimination.
All in all, in the author’s passage, we can notice that the problem of racial discrimination exists in the whole world. And the solve of this problem will also be an important part of the whole society to fight for the equality.
