World Poverty

In recent years, the problem of global hunger and food security has always been the focus of the international community. Although the international community has repeatedly promised as soon as possible to eliminate hunger and poverty, and the total elimination of hunger reached a consensus, but the hungry people in the world still amounted to 10.2 million people, of which the world has 29 poor countries facing a severe famine. This reflects on a fragile world food system reform urgency. To solve the problem of hunger and ensure food supply is the most basic elements of human survival and development, is a global problem in the world's attention, related to stability and world peace. In the article The Singer Solution to World Poverty, Peter Singer had brought the issue to our attention that by saving very little luxury out of an American’s normal life could easily save a child in the poor country from poverty. Overall, his opinion had given us inspiration that the root problem of the world hunger is not that we don’t have enough food to feed all the population but rather those rich population are not willing to share their wealthy resources to the poor. Thus, the only solution to the world hunger is that rich people had to develop a sense of responsibility to share their resource with the poor so that food resource as the only fundamental living entity can be satisfied.

At present, the number of hungry people fell very slowly. If developed countries cannot give enough attention and a further increase in aiding to poor countries, the hunger condition is still going to stay at the current level, with the increasing of hunger, economic and humanitarian assistance still cannot provide a fundamental solution will poor countries hunger. There’s need to change the mechanism's long-standing injustice and inequality, so that poor countries could have a good international economic environment, through the development to get rid of poverty and hunger. In Singer’s view, the rich countries are simply ignoring the responsibility they have by assuming that the rest of the world is living in harmony (Aiken 29). With the pressure of developing the domestic economics, they are forced to encourage people from spending their income to purchase new things, things they don’t need to survive. Thus, there’s very little channel for the rich population to realize that they are part of the planet with a family spending less than a dollar a day for food and children are starving to death. That rich country would have to tell the population the severity of the problem so that they could donate more money to make sure the entire human species become more civilized without leaving any of us in the threat of hunger.

Hunger is a serious problem that puzzles the human society, and the basic point of the elimination of hunger is the food security. In recent years, many Asian countries put forward "staple food self-sufficiency" policy objectives, mobilize and organize the masses were the construction of water conservancy and soil improvement infrastructure, these policies tend to increase the agricultural capital investment, the implementation of the "green revolution", food production is significantly increased, the progressive realization of the staple food self-sufficiency, to protect the domestic food supply, and to establish the system of grain reserves, the problems of hunger and food have been alleviated (Lappe 89). In particular, China has carried out the reform of the grain circulation system, and the promotion of high-quality food crops and crop structure adjustment, these practices not only meet the needs of Chinese Society for food, but food security has also been guaranteed. At this stage, it’s safe to conclude that we human have the enough ability to stop hunger from the world, but this process, technology innovation takes money to be established. The reason behind why we haven’t established this procedure is that all the humanitarian combine don’t have to money and the power to drive this procedure from happening. In Singer’s article, he compared buying luxury goods without spending it to save a kid to sending a kid to some human organ trade; he believes that these two behavior are essentially the same to the highest moral standard. However, he also brought the idea that few people use this kind of standard to regulate their life because they share the sense that being superior to others is what they want. It’s a fundamental moral mistake in the rich people’s ideology. In order to solve the world hunger problem, it’s necessary for them to realize that they are the pushing hand behind the world hunger. As a matter of fact, the only reason why these people would starve is that most of their cheap food resources are used to feed animals so that the rich class could enjoy a juicy steak while leaving the kids in Brazil hunger to death. The one way out of the trap is to make sure rich people understand the logical behind this phenomena.

Lastly, the logical behind why rich people’s donation could solve the world hunger is as follow. When rich people save their money for the charity for hungry kids, they spend less money on high-valued food resource as steaks or ribs. They price of this high-valued food are going to decline due to less demand in the market; the result is that more soil-based food source could be preserved so that the price could be even lower for the poor people. With the aid of charity and the humanitarian group who distribute the donation to the poor people, feeding them to prevent death could become a relative task which essentially are going to solve the world hunger problem.

Overall, it’s a tragedy to see there are still so many starving kids in the world at this stage of humanity. The rich people would have to take their responsibility to share their wealth with the poor so that we can reach mutual advancement in the society as a whole.
