Personal Statement

One of the philosophical theories goes that the surrounding plays an important role in one’s growth and choice. I became interested in finance from listening my father’s financial stories and cases since my junior high school. Then I was captivated with its magic and power on society and people. Different from other peers, I have made up my mind to study finance at that time. Not only because was I good at this lesson, but also because I am most interested in it. In the process of my study, I understand that the finance is not only a discipline for managing money but a discipline that can change the world. Learning economic knowledge can help us live a better life. Also if we engage in this work in the future, we can use the financial knowledge to help ourselves and others to create a wealthy life, so as to create a more harmonious world. That's why I love this major and eager to study further in this domain.

Actually, for years, I have been preparing for engaging myself in this exciting and challenging career. I chose to study Finance as my undergraduate major in University of New Hampshire. When I contacted this major professionally at the beginning, I began to understand finance comprehensively and profoundly. Taking stock as an example, at first I bought stock just according to its good curve and numbers of buyers. Later, I found that buying stock needed to analyze its price curve, market occupation and latest policies etc. Realizing this essence behind finance, I spent much time learning professional knowledge about finance and improving my English level. Meanwhile, I seize opportunities to communicate with professors in and out class and did a large number of exercises to strengthen professional knowledge. In addition, I often immersed myself in library reading more books pertinent to finance and related fields. Enriching myself in such an atmosphere of knowledge seeking, I had good habits of study formed and knowledge range in finance widened as well as kept my GPA between 3.30 and 3.50.

In addition, I devoted time to anything that can help give me various perspectives on financial field. I actively participated in projects, during which I was responsible for building financial models. For instance, in our recent project, we obtained a great achievement that from August to November 2015, the Chinese stock market achieved more than 20% of the average income monthly. In addition, for corporate finance, we took use of database, excel and surpass to plan the cost of capital, during which I realized that finance was an interdisciplinary course and required knowledge from an extensive range. Similarly, financial domain was changing all the time, which feature was accorded with my challenging character and flexible ability. These projects rendered me opportunities to enhance my operational and practical abilities and come into contact with stock market closer. All these experiences would contribute to my later study in finance.

Apart from academic courses and projects, I enlivened my spare time by participating in extracurricular activities and volunteer activities. During the college, our school held regular international students’ parties, in which I served as a representative of the Chinese students and was mainly in charge of contacting and reminding the Chinese students taking part in, and coordinating the exchange of Chinese students and international students. This experience enhanced my organizing ability and communicative skills. Additionally, I also committed myself to volunteer activities. In summer holidays, I served as a volunteer for the olds where I met a lot of old people who were rarely taken care by their children. I chatted with them and learned about their real heartfelt wishes. And I also helped them to do some simple things like washing clothes and making the beds. Although these were small’s things, I could feel their happiness and satisfaction. In addition, I also took part in the education support activity and became a volunteer teacher in a primary school. During the process of contacting with those children, I understood their desire for knowledge and the importance of education, which also strengthened my determination to study further to master more professional knowledge so that I could make more contribution to them.

The integration process of global financial market has promoted the reform and development as well as the competition of financial accounting in China. Such development prospect, coupled with my keen interest, prompts me to hammer at finance and accounting in a world-renowned university. University of Massachusetts Boston, becomes my first choice to improve and perfect myself. It is equipped with many first-class scholars and excellent teaching quality that will facilitate me immensely in the achievement of remarkable academic progress in finance. If I am honored to study in your university, I will study hard in the future learning process and develop myself into an all-round development talent. And I am willing to make some friends from different countries, so that I can learn different culture and enrich my vision. When envisioning my future, I am looking forward to working in a bank or risk Investment Company so as to accumulate experience for my ultimate goal of running my own company. Even though the work is not easy, I still have confidence and courage to face the challenge.
