Steve Jobs’s speech in the Stanford university commencement is certainly successful in motivating the younger generation to explore their life and work hard to contribute to the society. However, MLK’s I have a dream speech had a huge impact on the society that pushed forward the equal right movement. These two speeches share the following similarity,


First: They are both targeted! Speech is a kind of social activity, which is a form of propaganda for the public. It is in order to be able to use thoughts, feelings, examples and theories to impress the audience, "conquer" the masses, they both have a realistic meaning that is the so-called targeted, first proposed by the authors is concerned by the audience, it reviews and debate on rhetoric logic power for audience to accept and convincing, so that can play to its social effect. For example, jobs used his own example of being successful to made the sure audience feel that they are not working as hard as the successful people thus to motivate them.


Second, public speaking ability. The essence of speech lies in "speaking", rather than "speech," it is "talk" as the main, to "act" as a supplement. As the speech is spoken out, so it is necessary to write a speech in order to be able to speak as a prerequisite. A good speech to the speaker, the speaker should be good to listen to. MLK’s speech is very inspiring, and we can tell he’s acting the speech very well which is essential for the success of the speech. It would be very difficult for them to switch the speech note and have the same impact.


Third, they both share the agitation of speech. Speech is an art. A good speech will have a kind of emotional and wins a good impression of agitation. To do this, they both relied on the content of the speech of the rich, profound insights ideas and used original language to create an image with vivid infection.
