Along with the rapid development of modern society, more and more social challenges have appeared to hinder the world’s further development, and it is urgent now to face with these issues and make a difference. In order to learn about these social challenges and obtain the knowledge and skills to deal with these issues, I want to apply for the Brown Leadership Institute and explore the world from a deeper dimension.

According to the basic information about this program, it aims at encouraging individuals to obtain the skills to make a positive difference in the community by dealing with the social challenges, and I have been attracted by several aspects of this program. First of all, I have learned about some of the social problems in current world, such as the poverty and environmental pollution issues. And I am urgent to do something for reducing the negative effects brought by these concerns. The program is going to explore the social issues like these and provide deeper awareness, and I find myself very interested in these topics. Secondly, in this program I can receive the stimulated creative curricula, and peers from around the world will share their opinions toward the social arguments. I think this is a wonderful opportunity to get closer to the actual world’s issues rather than just staying in the books.

What’s more important, the program will provide the practice opportunity for me to deal with social problems and enhance my leadership skill. And I believe that leadership skill is a crucial ability for my future career. This is because that leadership skill will not only improve my own capacity to solve the problems, but also enhance the identification ability toward the new challenges. As a result, I become interested in this program and I want to try my best to participate in this opportunity for further learning.

In order to prepare for the program, I have started my study in the field of leadership skills, and I also read many materials about the social challenges topic such as the poverty issue and economic trends in the world. On the basis of my previous study, I am confident to join the program and catch up with the information delivered in this project. What’s more, I have made research on previous program materials, and I find them very useful even under today’s changing social environment. In fact, as the final goal of this program is to make a difference for our world, plans and actions are most important learning outcomes of this program. Therefore, I have made a general outline of my action plan considering the social problems like environmental pollution, and I want to adjust this plan along with my study during the program time and finally achieve the efficient action guidance for the direction of making efforts.

If I have the opportunity to attend this program, I am going to work hard on the lectures and cases. And I would like very much to attend the An Evening with Malala Yousafzai. From another aspect, as the participants of this program contain of students from different countries with various backgrounds, I want to learn about the specific social concerns in these countries from them in a closer way. And I can also prepare a detailed study about my own country China to share the valuable information with others. Overall, I believe this program is the opportunity for individual improvement and the expansion of my major, and I would like to apply for it with all my efforts and catch the chance to learn more.
