Research Findings of my Major and Career


 The major I choose is Business Administration, and the career I studied is Human Resources Manager. The reason I pick this career is that I think no matter the industry is booming up or on the recession trend, every organization is formed by people, and Human Resources Manager seems to be wanted by every industry. I checked the description of this carrier by clicking the www.bridges.com as guided by the teacher. I also checked the recruitment website to see the job description for a Human Resources Manager. Besides, I checked the individual comments on the internet about the daily job of this career. The job descriptions on the recruitment website make this career quite attractive. It seems that the major which one studies is not so important as one’s experience in related jobs. However, the actual daily job of most people in this career path are not exciting as it appears to me.     


The major of Business Administration require a broad range of academic abilities, but it does not require the students to be excellent at any of them. The major covers classes of liberal arts and science. Anything related to business and management can be included in the major. It does not have a particular focus, and its characteristic is the broad coverage of areas.


The skills required for the career of Human Resources Manager include management skills, communication skills, analyzing skills, and training skills. It requires the candidate to have proficient knowledge of government employment policies. The human resources manager works with different people in and outside the organization all the time. During the interviews of candidates, the human resources manager has a very short period to find out whether the candidate is fit for the job or not. Therefore, communication skills and the intuition to get to know people is crucial for a human resources manager.


I like this career because it involves in contact with different people all the time. The human resources manager is the one who interviews people and make judgments. Another reason is it does not have working pressure on the operation mistake or business growth target. The third reason is as human resources manager, he or she does not have to face customers so can get away with those hard customers.


However, there are three things I don’t like this career. The first one is it does not need much travelling. Travelling for business trip appears to fascinating to me because I like travelling. The second thing I don’t like is that many forms must be filled and provided in the daily job of human resources manager. According to the individual comments on the internet, except giant companies, most small businesses do not have real human resources manager, but human resources staff. Because the boss of such small business want everybody to drive the business and cut any department which does not have business gains. This is something surprises me and I don’t like.


This project helps me indeed. I get to know that to realize a career is not easy. For example, to be the candidate for a human resources manager one should have experiences of working in human resources department for several years. After the project, I realize that some jobs are not as attractive as they appear to be. Working is critical in one’s life. The first job is also imperative for a young person. The most important thing is to have a long-term goal and keep chasing for it. Most of the times, we need to work some time to get to know if we really like the job or not. I will obtain an internship to see if I really like to work in human resources department.
