Three Authors’ Opinions on Architecture

In the article, Discourse on Architecture, the author states four methods that were used in the architecture field in the 19^th century. The first method is that it is necessary to treat everything seriously not easily believe something is right only when we have enough evidence. This is a philosophical precept raised by the philosopher Descartes. The built of the buildings are for the purpose of different reasons, but all the purposes base on the one aim, that is people. In order to facilitate people to come into the buildings or go out of the buildings, the sizes of the parts of the buildings are different. The second method is to divide the problems into smaller parts for the purpose of finding out a complete solution. To achieve synthesis, we have to analyze the whole parts of the buildings starting from the simplest works. But as the diversity and complexity of the civilization of our modern society, we have to analyze more complicated works. The third method tells us that we have to obey some rules and follow the order of the choice. It is better to start with the simplest ideas and then the harder ones. How to use the principles, from the simplest and the easiest understandable works to the more complicated ones. The last method and also the fourth one is that it is possible to have it completed and be sure of not omitting anything important. It is of great importance for the materials which are given by nature. And use them to finish more complex architecture works. Although the civilization of our society is so diverse and complicated, nature has provided for human beings a lot of materials to use. We have to apply our logics and the materials given by the nature to build more advanced buildings. And all the elements given by nature should mix in a proper way. From the interior and the exterior design, the harmonious existence should be achieved. If we want to possess the architecture of our own, we have to admit that fact, and then seek for the forms and the materials of our own society. At the same time, the architects hold a critical attitude towards the prior constructions. In the process of the social and the technology development, the art form is also changing with time. The usage of the art form and the materials should be harmonious with the time. It should be following the law of symmetry.

In the article, the lamp of truth, I acknowledge the opinion that the author hold. He thinks that there exists a close relationship between the virtue of a man and the place that they live. And the conception would change with time. Although we may encounter the disadvantage part of one thing, it is also necessary to consider the valuable part of one thing. The happiness will turn the shadow back into the lightness. The real meaning of the art of painting is the reflection of actual facts. Architecture is mystical, and it lies in the virtue of human beings.

In the article, truth to the medium: using materials, the author shows us that the building materials to the modern era have changed dramatically due to the development of modern building technology and industrial production. In terms of the choice of the building materials, it becomes connected with the design of the buildings. And at the same time, the materials are used, and the building principles should get the proper respects. We have to hold a respectful opinion to the substance of the construction materials, such as the concretes, bricks and also the wood.
