Comparison between Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer
Comparison between Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer
Mark Twain is an excellent representative of American realism literature in the 19th century. He published a large number of literary works, and The adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are his representative works of children’s literature. With a lively style, Mark Twain’s depictions of children satirized and criticized the hypocrisy and vulgarness of the American social customs, and the inflexibility and decay and hypocrisy of school education under the social background of religious ceremonies. These two literature works are companion volumes, but there are some similarities and differences.
I finished reading both books just last week, and I think it’s worthy of the effort to study the difference between this two lovely novel to find out the writing style variation from Mark Twain. Is it the theme he tried to express made the difference in the writing style or if it’s the desire and age caused him to change him to finish his work in different style?
The topic is important because it can provide me a guideline of reading works from a great writer about how to understand the real purpose of writing. It’s obvious that rhetoric method changes from book to book, but for me personally, I don’t have a reference to match the style variation to the writer themselves, and this research should be able to offer me that reference on Mark Twain’s work.
The most effective multimedia aid for this assignment is Mark Twain’s autobiography together with these two books; thus, I can link the live event to these books so that I can understand the purpose of each difference.
The biggest obstacle is my lack of understanding of the American History since I’m an international student. However, I plan to overcome this obstacle by reading more into the history during Mark Twain’s livelihood so that I have a full aspect of his living time and cultural trend.
What I will learn most from this assignment is to gain an understanding of American history together with through understanding of Mark Twain and his greatness. It’s worth mentioning that the rhetoric skill used in this book could also become my writing entity that would benefit myself in my further reading and education.
