Black History Month
lack History Month
As the theme of the black history month, I shall speak as an international student from mainland China who kind of represent some of the minority within the country.
"Black History Month" begins in 1915, in the United States Constitution Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery in the past half a century. In September 1915, historian Carter G., Woodson, and famous black minister Jesse Moorland founded the "African American life and history of the society for the study of ASNLH, committed to the promotion of African American history research, and the black culture. In 1926, the Association selected Black history week "activities held in the second week of February, coincides with the President Abraham Lincoln and the abolitionist Frederick Douglas anniversary. This activity was triggered in response to U.S. schools and communities nationwide, across the United States have established history club, history lectures, and celebration.
In the following decades, Mayors around the nation started the official confirmation of the host of black history week. By the late 60's, thanks to the rise of the black civil rights movement and their own awakening, "Black History Month” had huge impact and involvement on a college campus. In 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized "Black History Month," he called on Americans to use this opportunity to honor the accomplishments of black Americans are often neglected in the whole historical process of each a fight for the field. Since then, every American president has designated February as "Black History Month", and to confirm the theme of history month.
The poem as an art performance contains elements from visual and sense to a level that we have to share the experience with the poet thus, it’s somewhat difficult to share the same sense with the original writer, but these beautiful words does create a unique sense of mine. Poetry is one of a kind type of writing, the thoughts that contains rich imagination together with concise language and image, has the distinctive rhythm of harmony, which presented a melody, the general statement is arranged in rows so that we can pay attention to the structure of beauty. The Perfect Lipstick is one example in the book The Lucent Fire that does this as
Sounds like the name of a drag queen from the early seventies.
One of those strapping Black men who had enough of playing macho,
Put their feet in five-inch heels and made saints of Dinah Washington,
Rita Hayworth and a very young Nina Simone.
So, on goes this lipstick. Pretty for parties. (A lucent fire)
Here poet used the Dinah Washington as a figure of Black men during his time and it just sends the message to the society about the painful process black people went through during the civil right movement. Overall, very inspiring work to read for the general audience.
Since American is often called a melting pot, it’s hard to sum the degree of discrimination within the society. However, it’s not very difficult to notice some seeming trend of a social issue. Back in China, which is a country formed with only one race group, racism is often not an issue because we simply don’t have anybody to discriminate. However, there is discrimination on the origin of the people. The northern people don’t like the southern people very much because southern land is the ones who started international business and trading. Southern people receive similar discrimination as most Jewish people in the States, but the good thing about our society is that Chinese people recognize this trend, and issue thus talks about it a lot and during the discussion and debate, we run into situations that both parties started to behave properly to form a unified ideology thus the society can move forward together. Compromise during the process is incorporated so that the equation on both sides are equalized. However, I don’t see similar procedure taken by American people. Some white folks do have obstacles to black people but fear too much to speak it out, thus we reached a social form that’s not going anywhere. As many black people I’ve talked to, they sure feel the race problem, but they sometimes find they have no one to blame because other races have hidden their behavior so well that they sense very little attitude to the issue, yet they suffer from it. We are at an intersection that political correctness had kidnapped the development of the society and we should work together to recognize the problem and then work on it.
