Natural and Constructed

In the art history, it is easily to notice that a lot of masterpieces of architecture works come from nature itself. So, the connection between nature and architecture is mystical and closely. Besides that, the inspiration of creation a masterpiece not only comes from our life, but also lies in our imagination and perception. Only when an artist combines the imagination with reality, could he or she make masterpieces. I strongly hold the idea that we should not only appreciate an architecture from the appearance of it, but also find the inner beauty of it. In addition, I do not agree with the idea that artists should only build in reality. I think that they also need to have imagination at the same time.

In Moore’s article I’ve known that the Genius loci means the inner meaning beyond the surface that we need to use our feelings and institutions to sense. I consider that it is a true opinion and I stand on his side. Beyond what we see in front of our eyes, we have to discover the inner things under the surface. In order that, we could find the true meaning of places. Some famous architectures are full of rich culture. If we only appreciate the buildings from the appearance of them, we may lose the inner beauty of them. When we first see the picture---Mona Lisa Smile of DaVinci. Most of the people may feel that it is just a picture of a woman. But when the artists appreciate the picture, they find the inner secret from it. And also take the Chinese Terra Cotta Warriors as an example, from the outside, it consists hundreds of thousands of stone warriors. But when we date back to the history of that period, we will be shocked by that. It shows the long history of Qin Dynasty. I also would like to take another examples. That is the Big Ben in the United Kingdom. For the people who do not know too much about the British history may hold the idea that this this is a only big clock in United Kingdom. However, this Big Ben represents the history of UK. It was established almost 300 years ago and it has a long history. The Big Ben now becomes a very famous Landmark building in UK. When foreign tourists visit UK, this is one of the most important architectures that worth looking.

Compared with the former opinion, some artists insist that when architects create  architectural works, they should not imagine too much, and they should also not rely too much on their institutions when they design. They should reflect the true meaning of art. I do not totally agree with this opinion. In terms of that, I would like to say that architecture needs creativity. Creativity is a form that can make the art exists in the world in the long-term. With the development of modern technology and science, more and more young people are affected by the “new” culture. Their appreciations to the arts are changing, and they would not like to spend more time on appreciating the abstract works. Plus, with the increase of modern life pace, fewer and fewer people would like to comprehend the inner meaning of masterpieces. So, in order to attract more people’s eyes, architects need to find a special way to show arts. However, in the past, some famous architectures exist in the world for thousands of years and they have a long history.

Laugier tells us in his article that by imitating the nature, art was born. I agree with this view. In the process of perceiving the nature, artists could be inspired and create more marvelous works. Nature imparts human-beings a lot of value. By feeling and discovering the nature, people could appreciate the true beauty of nature. Form my point of view that, nobody could deny the importance of discovering the inner beauty of nature. To some extent, it is because of that, as far as now, we could have the chance to appreciate so many beautiful and grand buildings in the world. Some famous architectures are constructed according to the principle of nature, such as the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and so on. The construction of them represents the power of nature imitation. We could acquire inspirations accidentally everywhere in the nature. When look at the sky, the shape of the cloud can become the resource of composition. When we stare at the river, we could also be surprised by the stream and fish. The inspiration of composition come with us together. In the art history, nobody can deny the contribution of past masterpieces. To some extent, almost all of the artists are affected by their precedents. Their architectural style, architectural form and architectural presentation are all affected by them.  So, we need to cherish the wealth that famous artists give us. In appreciating their works we have to be modest and respectful. So, you may find that it will be much easier to under the emotion they want to leave to us.

All in all, imagination, reality and confidence means a lot to an artist. He or she needs to have enough confidence to make construction. At the same time, they also need to base on the reality and make full use of their imagination when they make compositions. Only when the artists combine the reality and imagination, could they get big success in this field.
