Three Authors’ Opinions on Art
The author Moore refers that it is of great importance to protecting the diversity of culture. Apart from the traditional philosophy and psychology, pragmatism pays attention to the utility of language. As the author says, “The visual/verbal dichotomy is integral to the concept of the genius loci” (Moore 2). The author insists that in order to communicate with genius loci, people should not only understand something from the surface but in deep. And he supports that your feelings, senses and perceptions mean a lot. Some educationists are against to the idea that students should rely on their intuitions to design, but the author does not agree. From the political and social perspective, it can more clearly to explain the value of the good looking environment. Being as a landscape architect, we have the responsibility to appreciate the mystical art. We need to use more powerful way to show the beauty of our nature and let people identify it; we need to use more accurate and distinct language to express the universal myth of nature; we also need to have enough confidence and ambition to construct and care more architecture.
Laugier said in his article An Essay on Architecture that “By imitating the natural process, art was born” (Laugier 12). Through this process, it is easy to avoid to make art mistakes, because imitating is a pure art form and we can be easier to achieve true perfection. Some experts in the art field have recognized the importance of imitating the nature. Laugier tells us that the architects should follow architecture Order when they construct. Column, being as an essential part of an architectural Oder, has been described by the author in detail.
The author Relph introduces the concepts of place and analyzes the six major components in the concepts. Then, the author explains what is primitive space, perceptual space and existential space. He also tells us the definition of geographical space and the structure of it. Apart from that, he compares architectural space with planning space. Placelessness is another conception that is introduced by the author in the article.
