The reflection and analysis of the interview
The reflection and analysis of the interview
Recently, I interviewed two people as the topic of their perceptions of the social problem such as the influence of socioeconomic, gender, and race to their education. The two interviewees are strongly different in their nature condition. I not only practice the methods of the interview but also receive a large number of valuable information from them. In this paper, I will make an analysis of the results of the interview to the two people, describe my outcomes in this interview and then summarize the methods I used in the interview.
First and foremost, the two persons I interviewed are directly different in the aspects of gender, ethnic and social economic status that leads to their various in education condition. On one hand, the first people I interviewed is named Jessica, who is a white girl, comes from the New York City. I asked her a series of questions about her opinions and attitude towards socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, and race. She told me that “my parents seldom quarrel because of the little nothings of life and they shared the responsibilities of housework and living expense.” So she always believes that woman does not need to give up their career for family and man can play a significant role in the process of taking care of his child. She takes an active part in all kinds of activities in college. I asked her that does she can accept her further husband is a black. “ not, she replied, my families are both white, and we cannot accept other race.” Moreover, I find that the close friends of Jessica are both white, and they share a common attitude towards race. Moreover, then I inquired how about her living quality. “I have medical security from my childhood on, and it provides me health care every year, she side, my parents provide me good living condition and opportunities of promising jobs.” We will not deny that the advantages of parents are in favor of the future of their child. “A family's socioeconomic status is based on family income, parental education level, parental occupation, and social situation in the community.” (Socioeconomic Status) The parents of Jessica have a higher education background. Her father is a manager in an electronically company and her mother is an accountant, they have abundant income. They choose a quality school for Jessica because she can receive a sound education.
On the other hand, Mike, the other person is a black boy who is fond of law and engages himself in the social practice. For the questions I provide to Jessica, his answers are different from her because his family condition is different and complex. “I have a sister who is younger than me for four years; he told me, and my mother has to resign her work to take care of me and my sister.” “So my father takes responsibility for the whole consumption and has no time to company us, he continues, my parents are working class and cannot provide me more opportunities of promising future, so I must change my fate by myself.” Mike takes many efforts in his school work. “For children, socioeconomic status effects are moderated by children's characteristics, family characteristics, and external support systems.” (Bradley RH, Corwyn RF) In Mike’s opinion, he cannot change his race and family background socioeconomic status from his efforts. Obviously, I am not astonished by this interview results, and I believe they are the representatives of my classmates. I am willing to create a sound living condition and promising for my generations. Family is the first factor that determines the fate of child while education is a second posterior factor that increasingly significant for a child.
Furthermore, in this interview, I used the methods of face to face interview and sample investigation. I do not select interviewees deliberately; I just choose two people in the different race. This method is more representative. During the interview, we sit nearby the desk, and I propose questions that I prepared and when they are answering, I take notes on paper. The advantages of my methods are directly and relaxed that they can easily and totally express their attitudes. The disadvantages of my methods are obviously. Firstly, It will be better if I prepare a recorder pen that I can repeat when I am making a summary. Second, I need to take notes about their expressions when they talk about their experiences. They can reflect what they cannot express in words.
It is time to make a conclusion. I made an analysis of the interview results of Jessica and Mike that leave me great impression and strongly inspiration. It is in favor of my knowledge of methods of the interview that I learned in textbooks. The interview is the cognition process of the interviewer to objectives and process of analysis and estimates that the interviewer operates his opinions, knowledge accumulation and mode of thinking through personal observation, listening and speculation. In the following interview, I will inspire the interviewees to express their inner attitudes and thought.
