It is of great importance for the independent films to put forward and reflect more truths to the pubic. In addition, this film records the evolving African Americans. The whole story is narrated by an unborn child, which makes the plot vivid and truthful. According tooo the narration of a child who is unborn, the miserable life of the child’s mom who is raped by a man is implied (Julie). Besides, the child also narrates the girl who ignores the traditional customs and the rejection of her parents. She just wants to leave the island where she has been living since she was born. Above all, Daughters of the Dust records the life of three generations of the African-American women, and it describes well the evolution of the African Americans.
